The Hatea Loop Walkway – Huarahi o te Whai, this fully accessible walkway is just fantastic for all users including wheelchairs and mobility scooters.
My starting point is the Riverside Marina on Riverside Drive. The Hatea Loop walkway runs in a full loop of 4.2 k along both sides of the Hatea river, the Riverside Drive side passes by the Riverside Drive boat sheds and back onto the walkway alongside the river and then tracks pass the marina where the boats lay at anchor, then its left across the canopy bridge and follow the path towards Te Kakano
(The Seed) an architectural sculpture in the shape of a koru using all the elements of Hundertwasser’s style. A beautiful and intriguing structure that has been created to give the builders and artists the opportunity to adapt their skills for the proposed construction of the Hundertwasser Art Centre with Wairau Maori Art Gallery. The HAC will be 100 times the size of Te Kākano and building is planned to commence in 2017 when all necessary funds are raised.
